How to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing

Written by alain on December 1, 2008

Since before the dot com bubble, beginning in 1995, people began to find alternative ways of making extra money on side – really online.

The whole idea behind marketing is to make money. That is why we spend thousands of dollars per year – we do so in hopes of seeing an even larger return.

Here is a thought that is so simple it is scary. Making money without spending anything, or if at all, very little.

One has to pay for the website, but in many cases, that is the extent of it.

Offering a company an opportunity to place a link or a banner on a site that already exists, and then sitting back to watch money come in.

The fact is that, regardless of the financial state a company may be in, it relies on marketing, and of course other ways of getting their name out.

This is how it makes money, and that is something we have all learned to be a necessity for survival.

Affiliate Marketing is the interaction and trade of advertising for a performance based pay.

Any sales professional would agree that performance (commission) based pay will only lead to a higher check.

In other words, you have a website. Joe Shoe Company would like to place a link on your site, and is willing to offer you a commission on sales derived from individuals that clicked on his link from your site.

A common mistake that website owners may make is over the top affiliation.

He or She is willing to advertise for any company and really every company that is out there.

Although we learned young that magic happens in numbers, this is not necessarily the best approach to this marketing plan.

If, for example, you were the owner of bobswebsite.com. You all specialized in men’s outings in hopes of raising funds for a charity.

Odds are you will have regular traffic of men that get involved, and then of course their friends and families.

Because the mass majority of visitors will be male, you would not want to make it a point to advertise a lady’s boutique on your site. It does not make a lot of sense to do so.

Your whole goal is to attract individuals to sites that would be appealing, since you are on a paid by performance method.

It may appear tricky, but Affiliate Marketing is really simple. With proper use of internet authority, virtually everyone can make additional money.
