Are You Busy but Not Busy Making Sales with Social Media

Written by alain on July 7, 2009

The major pitfall that I have seen arise from being involved in social media is that it takes time….and time is something most people don’t have a lot of.

It takes a big chunk out of a person’s life to manage all the different sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Forums, Digg, blogs and more.

But what is the opportunity cost of that time? Is there a measurable ROI on time spent? You cannot expect to sit in front of the computer the whole day ”connecting” with people and think that the sales dollars will come rolling in.

How Mu
ch Time Does IReally Take?

There’s an interesting post from a blog called Museum 2.0 that offers a summary of the time it takes to be involved in social media marketing.

The idea behind marketing is to sell stuff and if you’re not selling stuff through social media marketing, then it isn’t marketing.

Social marketing
can be a very rewarding (and fun!) way to build your business… When you do this successfully, you will see more traffic, get better customer feedback and discover new information faster…. but doing it effectively can be a challenge.

You have to know which of these activities is really delivering on your time spent… You also have to remember that not every social media site or network was created equal in terms of their marketing potential.

But, if you are short of time and inspiration on how to harness the power of social marketing, then Twitter could be the answer you are looking.

If want to get results in the shortest space of time and without turning your life upside down or sucking away countless hours of your valuable time, you should learn how to use Twitter effectively to best capitalize on your limited time resources.

  2. And to think, Twitter is the first networking site I’ve been considering dropping. Something’s gotta give so I can breathe again!
